Services

Rikk's skills cover a range of Massage Therapy and PhysioTherapy services. He tailors  appointments to meet each individual's unique needs. Below is an overview of a few of the services he can provide.

PhysioTherapy
Whether you’re looking for relief from pain or working to maintain a healthy lifestyle, PhysioTherapy can help you get to where you want to go. PhysioTherapy treats a wide range of conditions, disorders and injuries.

PhysioTherapy involves the evaluation and treatment of physical disabilities.  It is designed to improve physical strength, range of motion, daily living  activities and functional ability.  Treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation, so we can develop a personalized treatment program for you.

Treatments may include a variety of exercises and activities customized to your individual needs, including therapeutic procedures such as: manual therapy (hands-on mobilization of soft tissue), gait training and therapeutic exercise (range of motion, strengthening) and other treatments; and therapeutic modalities such as traction, ultrasound, electrical stimulation and other pain relieving modalities.

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT):
This type of massage is intended to lengthen contracted tissues, deactivate trigger points with ischemic compression, and help loosen scar tissue through cross-fiber and transverse friction techniques. NMT also decreases or eliminates pain caused by strain musculature and/or irritated nerves. It reduces, eliminates or prevents constrictions and adhesion within muscle tissue caused by injury, over-use or improper body alignment. Additional benefits of Massage also include the release of Muscular Spasms, increased flexibility and joint mobility, improvement of circulation to muscles, organs and skin, and it increases the body's ability to rid itself of toxins.

Exercise Therapy
Designed to specific functional musculoskeletal, neurological and physiological conditions. Exercise Therapy helps to maintain the body's natural posturing after NMT or PhysioTherapy have been completed. Core stability training, and balance training are just a few of the techniques used during Exercise Therapy, and can benefit all ages of people.

Injury prevention
If you are prone to injuries or want to avoid an injury in the future, our injury prevention program can help you reach your goals.  One of our main goals is to educate patients on specific ways an injury can be avoided or re-injury.  We teach how an injury can happen and work with you to strengthen and condition your body to help avoid specific injuries or decrease the severity of an injury, should one occur.

PhysioTherapy Techniques:
Education about your condition
Stretching to reduce stress on joints and improve flexibility
Manual therapy to improve or maintain range of motion
Exercise to strengthen muscles and to improve coordination, balance, and endurance
Postural re-education
Home-exercise program instruction
Injury prevention
Pain management
Modalities such as Ultrasound, Electrical Stimulation, Traction, heat and/or cold therapy to relieve pain

The Treatment Process
There is a wide variety of treatment techniques and therapeutic modalities to thoroughly rehabilitate orthopedic and sports-related injuries. Therapeutic exercise consists of a broad range of activities that are designed to improve strength, range of motion (ROM), flexibility and cardiovascular fitness; collectively increasing a patient’s functional capacity for activities of daily living (ADL), work and athletic participation.

Therapeutic Modalities
Therapeutic modalities may involve a simple technique like applying ice (cryotherapy) for an acute injury or more complex modalities like cold lasers to reduce pain and swelling. Therapeutic modalities, when appropriately applied to the patient, are a useful adjunct to therapeutic exercise in the rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries. Therapeutic modalities can include Cryotherapy, Heat Therapy and Electrical Stimulation

Manual Therapeutic Techniques
There are a variety of manual techniques to relieve pain, increase range of motion (ROM), build strength, improve circulation and increase a patient’s overall mobility. They can include Join Mobilization, Soft Tissue Massage and Flexibility/Stretching.

Strength Training Techniques

Developing muscle strength (the ability to generate force against some resistance), endurance (the ability to perform muscle contractions for an extended period of time), and power (a large amount of force generated quickly) is critical to the success of any good training and conditioning program for athletes and is also essential to restoring the functional capacity of patients, both athletes and non-athletes, in a rehabilitation program following an injury. Some of the techniques that we use include Resistance Training, Plyometric Exercises and Core Stability Training
